Minimalism has been immensely popular in recent years, and one of the brands at the forefront of this movement is MUJI. MUJI stores are treasure troves of lifestyle products that are rooted in sustainability and minimalism, making them perfect for those who wish to make their homes simple and fuss-free. But if you’re looking to take things up a notch and actually experience minimalism in real life, you’re going to want to check out MUJI’s newest venture – an Airbnb guesthouse just outside of Tokyo named Muji Base Kamogawa!

Located in Chiba Prefecture, Muji Base Kamogawa is a prefab home built to let visitors enjoy a slower, more community-based lifestyle. It was constructed in a 100-year-old structure once known as the Noda Printmaking Workshop. The design of this property shows a perfect blend of the original building’s more traditional characteristics and the clean, streamlined aesthetic that has become synonymous with the MUJI brand.

The MUJI Base website reads, “You just spend your days at MUJI BASE, feeling at home, and blend in with the unique lifestyle of the local community. During your stay, you will develop a rich sensibility and learn a variety of life wisdom. To create your own local ‘bases’ across Japan is the vision of MUJI BASE.”

Muji Base Kamogawa accepts reservations for two or more nights. Visitors get a variety of amenities, including complimentary food and snacks from MUJI and complimentary drinks from Cafe & Meal MUJI Minnami-no-sato. Guests may also avail of meal kits that use local, seasonal ingredients for an additional charge. Rates start at P12,051 a night for five guests.

But that’s not all! Guests also get to participate in different activities meant to let them get fully immersed into the local lifestyle. These include harvesting of Chiba melons, visiting a dairy farm, and even fishing for mackerel.
