This Marikina Home Has An Outdoor Breakfast Nook & A Resort-Like Deck

Everyday life can become incredibly overwhelming at times, which is why it’s so important to have a home that can serve as a restful haven after a long, tiring day. That is certainly the best way to describe this three-storey house located in Marikina City.
Given the moniker Meta, this home is owned by a husband-and-wife tandem who wanted their residence to have a “more efficient layout, maximized storage and easy to maintain areas,” as explained by IDr. Uzel Alconera, who designed this home alongside Ar. JC Tio and contractor Mayumi Construction & Development Corporation. He added in an email interview with RealLiving.com.ph, “They wanted a relaxing and cozy mood for the space but at the same time organized and streamlined when it comes to the finishing details.”
To cater to her clients’ needs, IDr. Uzel came up with a style that is a blend of contemporary and modern, and characterized by elements such as clean lines, minimalist furniture, neutral colors, and a focus on functionality and an efficient use of space. This helped create an atmosphere of simplicity and clutter-free living, which in turn contributed to a calm and relaxing vibe. Moreover, IDr. Uzel shared, “It allows for personalization and customization and includes the client’s taste and preferences into the overall design.”

Foyer
One of the first areas you’ll see when you enter this home is this personalized foyer, which was created to function as an area for the owners to put on and take off their shoes and for guests to be received. The foyer also has floor-to-ceiling cabinets that provide ample space to store not just footwear but also other bulkier items. A full-length mirror was built into the cabinets and helps make the area look much lighter and larger.
Living Room
IDr. Uzel shared that most of the pieces in this home were custom-made, to ensure that quality is prioritized and that each item fits seamlessly into the overall design. “Customized furniture offer higher quality and durability compared to mass-produced options,” she elaborated. “The furniture become statement pieces that spark conversations and add a sense of exclusivity.”
The furniture and modular items are from Spaceplan Contracts, while the bean rug is from Abstrakts Manila. The decor is sourced from places such as H&M Home, Muradito Home, and Amazon, while the ficus Audrey (also known as a banyan tree!) is courtesy of Urban Foliage Society.
Dining Room
The dining room features a tray ceiling design, fluted wall panels, and a dining set that can easily seat a large group. One remarkable piece you’ll see here is the large painting, which is from Mejore. The rubber tree is from Urban Foliage Society.
Kitchen
Arguably one of the most picture-worthy parts of this home is the kitchen, with its marble surfaces, wooden stools, high-end equipment, and classy decor courtesy of Dexterton. It also has a set of servery windows that look out on the breakfast nook, as well as unique lighting pieces from Home Cartel.
Staircase
If you’re looking for a simple and fuss-free way to spruce up your staircase, here’s a tip you can copy: Just add framed photographs and artworks to create a unique and personalized gallery wall! Storage Unit
On the second floor, you’ll find a storage unit that stays faithful to IDr. Uzel’s vision of a contemporary look that’s blended with clean lines and a focus on functionality and efficient use of space.
Bedroom
The bedroom has an accent wall in a happy and youthful mint green hue, which helps give the room a relaxing and calming atmosphere. This room also features a desk and a little seating area.
Powder Room

Breakfast Nook
Indoor-outdoor living is heavily emphasized in this home. Case in point: Just outside the servery window in the kitchen is this quaint breakfast nook! The unique window feature simultaneously allows for more connectedness while cooking and entertaining, connects the patio to greenery, and creates visual interest, IDr. Uzel wrote.
Deck
Another special area in this home is the spacious, sunny deck. IDr. Uzel said, “The spacious deck with an outdoor bar is a place to connect with family and friends. Gatherings and moments of solitude can both be celebrated here.”
