Trendy subway tiles have become the tile du jour for kitchen backsplashes everywhere. Here, interior designer Kristine Neri used the tiles to take attention away from the awkward space sandwiched between a structural column and a wall.

Subway with a twist


Is your kitchen ceiling low? Then make like Morfosis and lay your subway tiles on the vertical, and create the optical illusion of a higher ceiling and more space.

Go all out, even if it’s tiny


There are lots of things to love in this tiny, industrial-style kitchen: the pipe shelves, the stainless steel countertop, the paleta storage bins, the crazy backsplash, and our favorite—the mini Whirlpool bar fridge underneath it all.

Various elements can work together


This one-counter kitchen by Cebu designer Hannah Lim looks bigger than it is because there are lot of useful elements here: patterned iTrade tiles that make the space look bigger, herb pots, and a chalkboard wall add dimension and visual interest.

A chalkboard kitchen



Contrary to popular belief that a kitchen needs to be bright or all-white, interior designer Kristine Neri-Magturo goes in the opposite direction by painting the kitchen walls in black chalkboard paint. This way, the owners can write down recipes or grocery lists on the wall, or even draw their own wall pattern.

Countertop doubles as dining


In this Cebu studio bachelor pad designed by Cebu architect Maya Franco, this wooden countertop (that doubles as a butcher’s block) also serves as a dining table. When not in use, the counter can be folded and tucked away.

Make it simple but elegant


Condo kitchens don’t immediately have to be industrial or modern in style. This kitchen in a condo unit designed by a11’s Eric Paras—though mostly untouched—becomes elegant because of the pastel-hued accessories and the glamorous, velvet bar stools.
