Based on the hundreds of home interviews we’ve done, most (if not all) homeowners want to come home to a space that’s clean, organized, and extra inviting. A lot have used hotels as pegs, too! This is not surprising as these posh five-star establishments set the bar high when it comes to creating a calming ambiance and bringing together quality pieces and accessories.

If you’ve recently acquired a condo unit and you want to turn it into a stylish yet comfortable sanctuary, here are tips from Cebu-based interior designer Hannah Lim to help you on your way:

1. Invest in a quality sofa.

Your sofa can be one of your first important purchases. It can be your focal piece that can dictate the look of your space. "From your sofa, you can start by putting an assortment of throw pillows in different shapes, sizes, prints and colors," says Hannah.

RL Tip: Don't forget to measure the area where you intend to place the sofa. This ensures that your chosen piece will fit in the unit and won't take up too much space.

2. Opt for a versatile coffee table or shop for ottomans.

"Ottomans are always a good coffee table alternative as it can also work as a foot stool and additional seating especially when there are space constraints," recommends Hannah. For a hotel-like feel, be on the lookout for tufted or upholstered storage ottomans. These picks can take your living area to the next level while giving you extra storage options.

3. Liven up the walls with a unique mirror.

"Mirrors don't have to be plain and boring. Pick one with a quirky design, get a designer piece or paint a wooden mirror with your favorite color," shares Hannah. If your budget permits, consider having beveled mirrors—these can visually expand your space while serving as an interesting wall accent.

4. Work with calming colors.

Sleep soundly in a room that's defined by soothing colors like green, blue, lavender, and light neutrals. These color choices can instantly turn your private space into an inviting retreat. If you're not too keen on painting your walls, choose sheets, pillows, and accessories in these colors for a quick upgrade. Pair it with potted plants and essential oils for the complete experience.

5. Don't forget to add finishing and personal touches.

"You can put a nice accent rug beneath and a few prints above the sofa. Picture frames add a personal touch as you can put pictures of family, friends, pets, travels, special occasions, and others," suggests Hannah. The designer displayed souvenirs on a customized shelving system of wood and rose gold-tone metal by Projekt Home Furnishings.

Projekt is a Cebu-based store that offers easy-to-assemble furniture like the shelf in the photo. For more information, you can follow them on Facebook or get in touch through mobile at (0917) 310-3581.
