In this 23sqm Condo Unit, You Can Sleep, Work, and Chill All Day
A young homeowner achieved his own take on the Scandinavian style with a monochromatic palette, big pieces of furniture, and built-in storage pieces
After seeing his colleagues invest in real estate, Michael decided to take the plunge as well by acquiring a condo unit in Mandaluyong, the sweet spot between the north and the south. Five years after taking the big step, he has successfully transformed the unit into a charming all-white space that takes inspiration from Scandinavian design. "Trend noon sa office, parang peer pressure. Bahay talaga ang totoong dream ko. Pero ngayon mas practical na may space na accessible sa lahat. It's along EDSA at malapit sa MRT." To create a home where he can relax after a long day or spend weekends enjoying Netflix, he worked with an all-white palette, an option that many homeowners seem to shy away from.
Truth be told, Michael's unit is a perfect example of how one can make a small space work even when going for unexpected furniture picks. "I moved in three years ago and the renovation took three months. I got a fully furnished unit but I sold almost all the furniture that came with it. I went with the Scandinavian style because it is predominantly white and I feel like white will make the space more open and airy compared to dark tones," Michael shares. Perhaps the best thing about putting everything together is the fact that Michael did it all on his own. With the help of interior design videos and searching for pegs, he was able to create a unit that works for him. "It's designed to fit my lifestyle, it's designed especially for me."
