Long before brand collaborations, international design stars, or even the Internet, there was Manila FAME (Furniture and Apparel Manufacturers Exchange). The bi-annual design fair has been a laboratory of sorts for designers for the past 35 years, and is the launching pad of local design trends and more recently, important social advocacies. Here’s what to expect at its April 19 to 21 run:

A Design Commune with small and medium-scale enterprises

Renowned designers Tes Pasola, Josef Crisanto, Reine Shih, and Detlef Klatt under the guidance of Tony Gonzales will work with more than 70 micro-, small-, and medium-scale enterprises to create thematic (and dramatic) products and settings that you shouldn’t miss viewing. The theme this season: Patterns and Palettes.

An entire village of creations from different provinces

This “village” with a booth for almost every region is a venue for highlighting the furniture, food, fashion, and wellness products of each province. The best part: most items are for sale!

A project that celebrates women

The Gender Responsive Economic Actions for the Transformation of Women Project celebrates Philippine women artisans and small enterpreneurs by giving them lessons in product development, management, and training to create a special collection of fashion accessories and décor.

A RIPPLE that could be felt throughout the nation

The Regional Interactive Platform for Philippine Exporters Plus (RIPPLES Plus) exhibit features a selection of decorative and fashion items from its enrollees.

The best of Filipino fashion

Manila WEAR is a collective of the country’s best fashion designers who will showcase inventive Filipino designs in clothing, footwear, and jewelry. Past Manila WEAR designers include Ken Samudio, Joel Escober, Michelline Syjuco, Maco Custodio, among many others.

Amazing furniture, of course!

What is Manila FAME without its groundbreaking and proudly Pinoy furniture designs? Check out the exhibits of dozens of furniture and accessory manufacturers from Pampanga to Cebu—you might even get design ideas from the booths!
