Are You Ready To Stay In A Muji Hotel?

We bet it’s going to be a modern-minimalist vacation

Since Japanese lifestyle store Muji opened in the Philippines in 2010, you've probably used their white storage containers, bought their plain but stylish throw pillows, and written on their anonymous, unlined notebooks (very Zen). They have also dabbled in home design, creating small, affordable Muji “huts” in collaboration with designer superstars like Konstantin Grcic and Jasper Morrison.

Now, the brand synonymous with simple, basic, and utilitarian design has branched out into a new venture—hotels. As reported by Spoon & Tamago, Muji will be opening its first hotel in Japan’s Ginza district in a building co-developed by Mitsui Fudosan and Yomiuri Shimbun by late 2019. Much like the brand, the building’s design is sleek, modern, and minimalist.

This comes soon after the Business Insider Japan’s news of a Muji hotel opening in Shenzen, China, in November 2017. The hotel’s 79 rooms will be decorated in—you guessed it right—Muji’s “normcore” style of recycled wood, subtle gray interiors, and signature minimalist furnishings. Here’s a peek at the scale model of one of their guest rooms:

Would their hotel rooms look like this photo below—a subtle but cozy vignette in soothing neutrals styled by Real Living’s Dagny Madamba in the Muji store at Bonifacio High Street? We wouldn’t complain if they do.

It might take some time before a Muji hotel reaches our shores. But while waiting, the end-of-season sale currently going on in local Muji stores is worth a look—up to 30% off on selected items for most of July. For more information, click here.
