This 28sqm Studio Unit in Bacolod is Perfect for Staycations
The design team created a compact yet inviting small home with a warmth that matches the vibe of the City of Smiles
By now, you’re all familiar with the challenges involved in designing and living in small spaces. Many of the condo units we’ve featured measure 50sqm or less, and to be able to give the owners a bright and comfortable home, the designers of each project went above and beyond to make the most of every inch of space by incorporating storage, adding extra seating, and working with customized pieces.
In designing this 28sqm studio unit in Bacolod City, interior designer Marianne Jardeleza and contractor Julian Velasco had to consider the requirements of the owners, tapping the right suppliers, and sourcing within Bacolod while facing the challenges of working on a compact unit. “The unit was originally designed for an adorable senior couple. They wanted a modern, relaxing, and elegant space. Their plan, at first, was just to have it designed to be rented out in the future. However, since their daughter was about to have her own family, they decided to let her use the unit first,” says Marianne.
It helped that the unit was bare when Marianne and Julian came on board as it allowed them to completely transform the space. They envisioned a modern Asian vacation home completed with rich brown colors, Asian-inspired pieces, touches of green, and a few small space tricks. Since it’s a studio unit, they also had to honor the owners’ request to conceal the bedroom from the rest of the unit for privacy. Take a quick tour of the unit below:
