Once you step inside this home, you’ll immediately bring out your phone to snap photos of every nook and cranny. We won’t be surprised, as every inch of this high-rise haven is picture-perfect. “This home is special because it’s a passion project of ours. My brother, my sister-in-law, and I used to do party styling. We really love styling spaces and we are planning to formally venture into it soon. When our family acquired this property, we volunteered to style it. It has a lot of small details that really show our design aesthetic and personal taste,” shares Cherissa Ang.

Since the three didn’t have an interior design background, they went with materials and pieces that they considered functional and aesthetically pleasing based on their tastes. “We consulted our contractor on whether what we wanted was feasible or sound in terms of structural safety, [and the like],” she adds. From the play of neutrals in the living area to the whimsical details of the dining nook—it’s hard not to be captivated by this home. The bonus? It can make you feel at ease in an instant, as if you’re not in the middle of one of Makati’s busiest hubs. It’s safe to say that the three achieved their goal of creating a space that’s inviting and relaxing.

Kitchen and Dining Areas

From the main door, guests can instantly see the compact kitchen, charming dining area, and the open living area. The sliding glass doors that lead to the balcony let in natural light, completing the warm and homey ambiance.

Reading/Sleeping Nook

“The main challenge was opening the space to make it look bigger than the usual 60sqm unit and of course, working within a specific budget,” says Cherissa. Instead of leaving this corner near the bedroom unused, they turned it into a chic reading nook that can double as an extra sleeping space when needed. A daybed with storage compartments is ideal for the area, while the addition of wall-mounted shelves meant for books and décor make it more functional.

A subdued shade of teal serves as the accent color in the condo unit. This stainless steel piece painted in the said color separates the nook from the dining area. It is used to hold potted plants, décor pieces, and other knickknacks.

Living Area

The living area is a breath of fresh air. While we’re used to seeing sectional sofas and leather couches, the siblings opted for a modular cushion sofa with a wooden base.

From afar, the sofa looks like a puzzle piece. Adding pillows in varying textures and colors helps liven it up and make it more inviting, while the plant placed on a stool brings the organic feel. A textured chevron area rug defines the space from the rest of the unit. From the living area, the owners and their guests can relish the view of the city or access the balcony.

The owners successfully created a cohesive look by showcasing the accent color in accessories and wall accents. These pieces on the wall highlight the subtle charm of teal as the color works well with neutrals.

Faux plants bring the feel of the outdoors in and complement the look of the dining area.

Dining Area

We’ll surely enjoy meals more with a dining area as pretty as this. It immediately transports guests to an al fresco dining spot. “Our favorite part of the home is the dining area with a wall of faux plants. It’s our favorite design hack, too. We wanted an indoor vertical garden that was easy to maintain and is also aesthetically pleasing at the same time,” explains Cherissa.

Opting for faux plants is a safe option—especially for busy homeowners as maintenance is a breeze. To complement the green wall, the three completed the space with metal café chairs in white and a table with wooden top and a metal base.

The kitchen is small, but it doesn’t look cramped. With the space above the sink kept open, light and air can circulate, even allowing the owners to chat with guests while cooking. Standard cabinets help keep clutter at bay and only the essentials are left on the counter.

There are no doors concealing the kitchen as well—keeping the look open and airy.

Two sliding panel doors were installed to separate the bedroom and ensure the privacy of the occupants.

A refreshing combination of neutrals and pops of color complete the sleeping space. The trio made sure that the look ties together as similar wall accents coupled with hints of teal and mint can be seen in the space.

In completing the unit, Cherissa admits that they sourced from different stores. “We really took time to source the items. It’s a ‘high, low mix.’ For example, the bedside table is from Philux while the vanity is from Landmark Department Store. We have décor from Hong Kong and some from Divisoria,” she shares.

Cherissa shares that they like the bed without the headboard. “We opted to put a ledge where we can display some artworks,” she adds. Aside from the said pieces, there are also framed prints and a board for photographs.

The vanity nook is chic and simple. A metal chair that’s similar to what’s seen in the dining area is paired with a sleek table from Landmark Department Store. It is spruced up with plants and a mirror with a wooden border for a unified look. To maximize the available vertical space, another shelf holding a work of art can be seen above it.

To keep the look interesting, the three brought in accent pieces in bigger sizes, too. Instead of putting them up, they maximized the available floor area. As seen in the bedroom, one wall art is propped against the wall.
