Style of Home: Rustic-Industrial

Decorating your own home can be the right choice for those who are bold, brave, and on a budget! While doing something this big on your own can be risky and challenging, it can also fill you with a unique sense of fulfillment. Knowing that you planned the space and selected the building materials and furniture pieces is something that you can always be proud of.

Since Albert and Tanya decorated the first home that they owned and they were happy with the results, they decided to work on their new place as well! When the couple purchased the 32.5sqm unit during its pre-selling period, Albert used Photoshop to draw the plan that they had in mind. The home now has red brick walls, rustic wooden planks, and industrial-style lights and pipes.

Living Area and Bedroom

How can you create a private sleeping area in an open space? Sheer white curtains could do the trick! Behind the curtain is a wooden bed with storage options underneath. The mesh wire-covered cabinet doors open to reveal shoes and luggage.

When the couple needs another seat for family and friends, they can simply use the metal hooks on the wall to hang this quilted hammock from Hanoi, Vietnam.

Table Lamp

Albert built this industrial-style lamp using leftover wood, metal pipes, and a glass mason jar.

To better illuminate the beauty of this teeny-tiny haven, the couple installed spotlights on the ceiling.

Open Storage

Albert and Tanya built an open cabinet with metal pipes and wooden planks. Beneath the clothes racks are abaca baskets on moveable shelves.

Beside the clothes racks are wooden shelves decorated with a lighted bar sign, boxing gloves signed by Manny Pacquiao, and a motorcycle helmet from China. There is also a vintage electric fan on a two-door locker from HMR along Pioneer St., Mandaluyong.

Vintage Equipment

Albert also used the shelves to display his collection of vintage film and photography equipment.

Living Area

Facing the customized closet is a Chesterfield sofa from Urban Abode! Although most Chesterfield sofas are upholstered with leather or leather-like fabric, this one is covered in burlap fabric for a charming rustic look.

Hanging above both sides of the tufted seat are rustic-industrial lamps made by the homeowner.

Kitchen and Dining Area

For the kitchen and dining area, the couple created built-in shelves made from wooden planks and metal pipes.

Underneath the shelves is a small dining table that can be pulled out when Albert and Tanya want to enjoy a nice meal together.

The kitchen looks different from most of the cooking corners that we have seen before! Instead of tiles, the backsplash is made using affordable and easy-to-install aluminum metal sheets. The wooden cabinet doors also look different because of the steel mesh and abaca ropes used as door pulls.

Abaca Ropes

Varying lengths of abaca ropes are used to hang "light bulbs" from an overhead shelf.

Storage Cabinet

How can you make the most of a small space? There is nowhere to go but up! Line the ceiling with a wooden shelf that can be used to store and display different things.

In front of the shelf is another industrial-style lamp.

Barn Door

Separating the bathroom from the rest of the 32.5sqm unit is a barn door. You can get barn door hinges and other cool rustic-industrial pieces at Vintage Hardware
