A Victorian-Inspired Condo Unit

Refurbished antiques and archetypal pieces transform this space into a home befitting an era gone by

A simple home with personality was the request of homeowner Gina when she asked Dobie Aranda to design her 158sqm condo unit. Fulfilling this request can be a challenge so Dobie took inspiration from Gina’s love for old and classical things to create the Victorian-inspired home she and her family live in now. Although simple and Victorian don’t seem to go together, it was neatly executed as envisioned by the homeowner.

A couple of Victorian pieces can give any room plenty of personality without overcrowding. The intricate details and the different textures bring depth to a space and keep things interesting. Despite the entire condo being stark white, the place is very warm because of the rich colors and suede textures that dot the home. For décor, Dobie made use of renaissance-style sculptures instead of small, painstaking details. Brimming with character, the home is definitely how the owner wanted it to be.

Living Area

Although Victorian is such a classic and old style, Dobie was able to make the living area modern and chic by adding French Louis XV-inspired chairs. The couch was given an updated look --- with the green suede upholstery and by repainting it with white.

Living Area Detail

Instead of using small details to fill the space, Dobie used striking art pieces to stick to Gina’s request for a simple home.

The sofa works well with the mirrored coffee table --- giving the space a sophisticated look.

Design Details

Framed works of art adorn the wall near the dining area. To keep up the unit's sophisticated and classy look, the console was painted with a silver finish. To complement the color of the console, burgundy accents are seen on display.

A distinct white sofa prevents the Victorian-inspired pieces from becoming overbearing. It also doubles as a divider between the living and dining areas.

Receiving Area

Predominantly white, the receiving area is made more welcoming by the curvy, tufted seats. The stone bust adds a statement, too -- making the space interesting.

Dining Area

The vintage-looking, eight seater dining set highlights a matte white finish. A mirror is seen directly above the table to give the illusion of a higher ceiling. To complete the look, an elegant chandelier was also added.
