It isn’t difficult to reach one’s dreams, if one has clear goals set from the beginning. For Nelson Canlas, he has always dreamed of a modern, minimalist home that’s relaxing in its bareness. His 41sqm condo with a monochromatic theme is a refuge for the busy news correspondent. Despite its size, the condo is not left wanting in space, storage, and oomph. Interior designer Jeng Buluag exercised creativity in designing storage spaces that are sleek and space efficient as well as in developing ideas that are out of the box and visually arresting.

The duo’s main collaboration is the elevated bed with an aquarium headboard – a showstopper for this pad. Since the condo is located at the 23rd floor of a high rise building, Nelson is afforded a view that overlooks the city skyline and the Sierra Madre mountain range. A bonus for this small unit are the storage spaces under the bed. To go with his well-thought-out space, he also chose appliances that are eco-friendly – an important consideration in these times when energy-efficiency, sustainability and eco-responsibility are top of mind.

Hallway The entryway has an interesting rock wall that adds texture and visual interest to the rest of the bare and minimalist unit.
Living Area Natural light is maximized in the living room, while space isn’t an issue with this sleek and compact entertainment suite. All of Nelson’s basic entertainment needs are contained and organized in this black console, while the red futon from Dimensione lends a vibrancy to the room’s neutral palette.
Living Area Detail Quirky decors adorn the living room such as these charming bird and bicycle accents.
Dining Area A slim glass top table with metal stand is not only functional but also visually expands the space for dining. Set against a floor-to-ceiling mirror, the room appears bigger than it actually is, despite the 5-seater dining table.
Bedroom Designer Jeng Buluag created a masterpiece in this area, with the large aquarium headboard and elevated bed that allowed maximum use of space in the 41sqm unit. The bed’s elevation gives Nelson a grand view of the city skyline at night.
Workstation Despite the condo’s size, Nelson still has a workstation. The customized cabinets have built in lighting under the shelves, still in line with the condo’s sleek and modern look.
Bathroom Nelson’s bathroom may be bare, but it is squeaky clean and organized, with a mock-rock wall that adds personality.
Balcony Nelson at his 41sqm condo’s balcony. This view is his condo’s main highlight, particularly on clear nights when the cityscape is aglow.
