A first home is memorable as it is, more so if you went to great lengths to make it picture-perfect and functional. This two-bedroom condo unit in Taguig is a milestone for the owners. As it’s their first home as a couple, they want to make sure it’s picture-perfect, cozy, and functional, too.

To make sure they can make the most of the space, they worked with interior designer Monica Eres, who gladly took note of their requirements and made sure the final look will meet their needs. “They wanted an all-white space with touches of wood, plus, they needed enough storage space, especially for the wife’s collection of long dresses, bags, and shoes,” shares the interior designer.

Monica decided to create a modern Scandinavian-inspired condo home that features white walls, neutral colors, and well-thought-out pieces that add warmth.

Dining Area

The unit opens to the dining area on the right. According to Monica, they had to reconfigure the unit’s layout to make sure the dining and kitchen areas would be parallel to each other. A mirror was installed to mirror the kitchen on the other side of the unit.

Instead of the usual dining chairs, the designers brought in two upholstered chairs and a bench seating with storage underneath. Since the living, dining, and kitchen areas have beech wood flooring, it’s important to separate one area from the next. To do this, a console table can be seen near the sofa.

“The look of the kitchen focuses on function, streamlined forms, and neutral colors,” says Monica. They retained the existing cabinets but changed the color of the laminate from dark brown to white. “We changed it to glossy white with black handles to create contrast,” the designer adds.

Matching the seamless cabinets is the clutter-free countertop. Minimal décor pieces are on display and essentials are kept within reach.

A U-shaped kitchen layout gives the owners enough room for preparing meals and bringing in appliances.

Living Area

Wooden touches and neutral colors make the living area inviting. Black and white prints in frames keep the walls from being too plain.

For the entertainment area, Monica added vertical wooden slats to add character to the accent wall as well as to create a three-dimensional impression. The floating cabinet provides storage for entertainment essentials and holds décor pieces. “White can sometimes look flat so we added some wooden tones to the built-in cabinet to keep things interesting,” explains the designer.

Master Bedroom

According to Monica, creating a restful and soothing atmosphere was a priority for the bedrooms. One of the noticeable things in the master bedroom is the uneven headboard that doubles as an accent.

Storage was also taken into consideration in finalizing the master bedroom since the clients are very particular about having enough space for clothes and collections. “Closets, more than any other space in the house, work best if you know in advance how the client will be using them,” Monica says. In the master bedroom, there are many storage nooks and overhead cabinets.

Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom functions as the extension of the master bedroom in terms of the overall style. Monica used the same color palette to achieve a cohesive look.

Bathroom

In designing the bathroom, Monica wanted to achieve a space where the owners can wash away their worries and tiredness away. To create a luxe space, she paired Calacatta tiles with a white ceiling and matte black accessories.

Instead of the usual glass shower enclosures, the designer opted for an industrial-inspired shower partition that matches the bath fixtures.

The beauty of the Calacatta tiles shines through in the T&B. Since this material is already beautiful, décor is kept at a minimum.
