A 63sqm Modern Classic Condo Unit
With a stylish bar and a living area that's reminiscent of a cozy cinema, this home is all about rest and relaxation
Without a doubt, we all want to come home to a place where we can enjoy the things we love, entertain friends, and relish the sweetest of slumbers. For a mining engineer, he wanted a home where he can get some work done, have a few drinks with friends, and indulge in his favorite movies and shows. To make this happen, he tapped architect Angelica Liwag and her expertise. Angelica transformed the once plain unit into a homey and comfortable haven that’s akin to a posh movie house. A bar can be a hangout on its own while the living area can match the ambiance of your favorite cinema. After months of sourcing and hard work, the owner got the space that he wanted and more. It’s a special place where he can enjoy the best of both worlds—a balanced haven for work and play.

Upon entrance to the unit, guests are given a view of the compact dining space and the inviting living area. Beveled multi-panel mirrors spruce up the wall between these areas and the bar—adding dimension to the space. It’s also a welcome sight instead of the usual mirrors used in small spaces.
A niche on the ceiling was added for the fiber optic lights that mimic constellations and twinkling stars. These lights make for a charming touch at night or when the owner is watching a movie.
The owner initially wanted to have a two-seater dining area with the intention of using it as a workspace. However, Angelica opted to add a three-seater instead just in case the owner is expecting guests. The table features a charming, triangular leaf shape that makes it interesting.
From this angle, one can see the 3D wall panels used to complete the bar. It also has a solid granite counter. Barstools also face the countertop—making it ideal for parties and get-togethers.
To recreate the look and feel of an actual bar, Angelica added storage cabinets within the space to hold various drinks, glasses, and other essentials. The counter behind it (not seen in photo) also has secret hanging storage that can be used to display glasses and bottles of drinks.
The architect chose carpet tiles to make the living/entertainment area extra cozy. Different seating pieces complete the space—all meant for a relaxing good time. The earthy colors in the space perfectly complement the wallpaper with hints of gold. Angelica worked with dark colors in this part of the unit to create the movie house ambiance.
A pair of recliners is situated in the middle, complete with niches for drinks and snacks. Since the place doesn’t have dividers, the owner and his guests can easily move from one area to another or get snacks in the bar and kitchen with comfort and ease.
The kitchen maybe small but it’s functional and complete with storage solutions. Accent tiles that resemble bricks serve as backsplash while LED lights were used to brighten up the space. A customized range cabinet was also built to accommodate the induction cooker, microwave oven, and oven toaster.
If the common areas are all about having fun, the bedroom is meant for rest and quiet time. A customized headboard with linear wallpaper anchors the bed and ties the whole look together. To echo the mirrors in the dining area, two vertical mirrors flank the bed on both sides. Meanwhile, a niche on the ceiling features wooden laminates as accent and warm lighting for an extra snug appeal.
Since the room has a view of the city, Angelica added an accent chair by the window so the owner can enjoy the view or read a good book during his downtime. He also opted not to have a TV in the room so he can fully rest and recuperate after a long day.
The tiny bathroom highlights simple fixtures, an accent wall tile to keep it from being too plain, and wall-mounted shelves to hold décor and toiletries. To further save on floor space, a sliding shower enclosure was also chosen.
