A 110sqm Paris-Inspired Condo Unit

Contemporary pieces and industrial touches come together in this elegant two-bedroom home

More often than not, those who buy condo units consider these prized properties as investments. Some rent it out, others turn it into a cozy Airbnb, and a few simply get an extra unit to serve as a halfway home for friends and family.

This posh two-bedroom home in Makati was bought and designed with the children and grandchildren of the owners in mind. To turn it into a welcoming and spacious haven, interior designer Christian Banayad worked with classically elegant apartments found in urbanized cities as pegs. He also turned to New York, London, and the romantic city of Paris for design inspiration. To update the design, he injected industrial elements to decorate a few areas. The result is a well-maximized space with an arresting and fresh aesthetic.

Open Layout

From the door, the owners can access the kitchen on the left and the open dining and living areas. The unit features a simple color palette that packs a punch—it's a mix of neutrals and bold colors.

Living Area

A brown area rug anchors the living area while the wallpaper serves as the focal point in the space. According to the designer, wallpaper was chosen to cover the structural wall. Cove lighting was added to highlight the wall and create a warm ambiance. Meanwhile, a play of colors can be seen in the pieces—from the neutral sofa from SM Home, decor from H&M Home, extra ottoman from Crate and Barrel, and mirror from Our Home.

Dining Area

From the dining area, guests can see the three mirror panels that were added to create an illusion of wider space. These mirrors are backlit to capture the attention of visitors. A couple of black metallic droplights from Decor serve as main lighting.

The dining set is a combination of industrial and classic elements. The red steel chairs from Mandaue Foam give the unit a jolt of color as well as add character to the space.

Kitchen and Dining Areas

Given the spacious counter in the kitchen, the owners can entertain and interact with friends even while preparing food.

Christian didn't change the layout of the cooking space—he simply added a huge clock to keep the walls from being too plain. Simple neutral-colored geometric-patterned tiles were also used as backsplash.

Bar Area

Since every inch of floor space counts in condo units, a corner in the living area was turned into a makeshift bar with a piece from Muebles Asia. Aside from keeping this corner functional, it also gave the owners a special place where they can store and organize drinks and glassware.

Master Bedroom

To complement the white walls, touches of black and red complete the expansive master bedroom. The customized high-gloss bed is connected to the meter-long night tables on both sides while the gold table lamps were used to add a sophisticated feel.

Master Bedroom

To match the room's color scheme, a customized red dresser is paired with a black Mackintosh chair from the owner's previous home. Given the backlit mirror, the occupant can get ready in the morning with ease, plus, it gives the corner a dramatic effect.

Master Bedroom

The red-and-black customized headboard highlights the bed. Hints of red add a pop of color while the touch of black complements the pair of table lamps.

Master Bathroom

The T&B is kept simple and functional with a glass shower enclosure and a spacious counter. To give the occupants enough storage, an open shelf under the counter can be used to store extra towels, toiletries, and even cleaning must-haves.

Second Bedroom

The second bedroom is airy and brighter with its select furniture, minimal decor, and open windows. An accent chair welcomes guests into the space. Aside from being an extra lounge corner, it can also be the perfect spot where one can read books or simply admire the city skyline. A Tom Dixon-inspired lighting fixture provides additional light when needed.

Second Bedroom

To keep the bedroom from looking too plain, the same wallpaper seen in the living area was also used as wall accent above the bed. Similar to the treatment seen in the master bedroom, two mirrors flank the accent wall to achieve a balanced look.
