In one of his YouTube entries, civil engineer Slater Young (who has also been having ant problems at home) shared a cheap but effective way to get rid of these pests—and it's super easy to do! To get you started, you'll need to make a solution.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Water
  • Sugar
  • Borax
  • Measuring cup
  • Funnel
  • Glass bottle
  • Plastic bottles

Start by pouring 3/4 cup of sugar into a glass bottle and mix it with 250 mL cup of hot water. "To make [the solution] last longer, make sure you boil the water... kasi you're going to be using this [mixture] for about a month or two," explains Slater. "If you don't boil the water, hindi na s-sterilize 'yung sugar and the sugar [will] ferment." Once the sugar is dissolved, add 250 mL cup of lukewarm water, as well as a teaspoon of borax, a cleaning agent. "You can order it online and it's super cheap," he shares.

By adding only a small amount of borax to the mixture, Slater said that "it [won't] kill the ants instantly but it [will give them an] opportunity to take the poison into their hive so it [can] kill the whole colony."

Once the solution is ready, pour it into small plastic containers, which you can then place in the areas of your home that are usually invaded by ants. When Slater tried this solution, he said, "[nabawasan] 'yung [ants in our kitchen] after a week."
