7 More Budget-friendly Ways to Get Rid of Ants

Here are more all-natural solutions and practical ideas to try

Many homeowners use store-bought chemicals for a variety of home-related tasks, especially for pest control. We regularly use repellents to keep pests away. However, these products are expensive and bad for you, your family, and the environment!

Instead of buying chemicals, you can try other items that you can find around your house. Apart from being cost-effective and better for your health, they can also be just as effective as their artificial counterparts! If you have a serious ant problem, here are affordable and tried-and-tested ideas.

Prevent ants from entering

If you would like to have an ant-free home, you should always seal the spots where they may be entering. Seal windowsills, doorways, and other entrances with silicone caulk, putty, or plaster. These sealants are available at most local hardware stores.

Use coffee grounds

After you've made a cup of coffee in the morning, you should save the used coffee grounds! These can be sprinkled around and directly into the ant hill.

As we mentioned earlier, you can also pour boiling water into the ant hill.

Use charcoal

If you have just grilled your favorite barbecue, you should save the burning coals and place them on the ant hill. This will instantly get rid of the ants.

After you have sealed entrances and destroyed ant hills, you may also line windowsills, doorways, and other places where ants can enter with charcoal.

RL Tip: Everytime you come near an ant hill, you should cover your hands, arms, legs, and feet!

Use cinnamon

You can also line windowsills, doorways, and other places where ants can enter with cinnamon powder. You can even place cinnamon sticks in areas where you often find ants.

Chili Powder

Line the windowsills, doorways, and other nooks and crannies with a little bit of chili powder. However, we wouldn't recommend this in homes with children and pets!

If you've just made a salad or a sandwich, save the cucumber peels and slices! Place these near the entrances to prevent the ants from coming in.

You may also leave mint leaves, used mint tea bags, or mint oil on the entrances of your home! The refreshing minty scent will drive the ants away.
