As owner Pauline Moscoso-Sorrell explains, “it is quite compelling to see how pottery designs and processes vary and reflect the culture and history of the city where they are made.” Scrolling through Aarde’s Instagram page is visually satisfying—each piece will command your attention and would make you think how you can make it part of your home.

Aarde, which means “of the earth” or “soil” in Dutch, offers local pieces made by Filipino artisans, can be customized according to the client’s preferred colors. “We indulge our clients and collaborate on creating new designs with them. We also personally engage with our clientele so the customer experience is straightforward but meaningful,” says Pauline.
When shopping for the home, having many options is a must. In addition to showcasing the works of local makers, the shop also brings in pieces from other countries like Japan, Iceland, and the Sonoran region.

The best thing about Aarde’s pieces is it’s a conversation-starter and a functional piece in one. According to Pauline, The Ochre series is the brand’s staple collection which is made locally. Clients can pre-order it anytime and they can have the colors customized.

Aarde finds joy in hearing how clients style and use the pieces they buy. “We aspire for Aarde to be a reminder of living well, that something as mundane as having lunch, sipping coffee, or slurping a bowl of ramen at home can be an inspiring and elevated experience,” Pauline shares.
