Tabo That Have Gone Viral on Social Media
This humble household item has been riding trends.
The tabo is a must-have in every Filipino bathroom. From your store-bought dipper to repurposed ice cream pints, it’s necessary simply because it’s practical—which is why when a tabo is suddenly popular, it’s almost always funny.
Three tabo have gone viral the past few years for different reasons. They’re all currently available in the market, too, so if you want to get in on the bandwagon, you can always add to cart.
MUJI’s Bath Dipper
In 2019, MUJI posted about a tabo that is “not your ordinary bath dipper” as “the angle of its handle is designed to make it easier to scoop water with less weight on hand.” Technical specs aside, it was tagged at P365, and considering that your usual tabo’s price goes from P20 to P60, it quickly became viral. Currently, it’s sold at P265 and is available online.
Orocan’s “Tabo Max”
While the brand has never confirmed it, netizens saw Orocan’s December 2020 promotion of their “Tabo Max” as a swipe at Apple’s AirPods Max. According to Orocan, their tabo features “high-sheen plastic finish, adaptive handle, active water retention, and maximum buoyancy factor.” You can get a pair for P69.50, “one for each cheek,” or just get one for P34.75.
Japan Home Centre’s “Aesthetic Dipper”
At P44, Japan Home Centre’s tabo is made of transparent plastic that has a wide mouth and a spout for easy pouring—making it perfect for kitchen use, too! It became popular online due the brand’s “Did you know?” Facebook post that says, “If you have P67 billion, you can get 1,522,727,272 pcs. of this 44-peso aesthetic tabo from Japan Home Centre.” Netizens saw this as a reference to the Commission on Audit’s questioning of the Department of Health’s management of pandemic funds worth around P67 billion in August 2021.
