Chandeliers are stylish pieces that can add a sophisticated touch to your space. If you've always wanted to use such pieces at home, you shouldn't be afraid to go big on chandeliers and other lighting fixtures.

It can look overwhelming, especially when they extend both vertically and horizontally. Architect Jerry Isles shares these tips and tricks to make sure you don't go overboard when choosing bigger-than-usual light fixtures.

Work with your home's theme

Once you've finalized the theme and feel of your home, it would be easier for you to know where to shop. The key is in clever mixing and matching of pieces.

Consider the other pieces in the area

Choose a chandelier that will either harmonize or contrast with your furniture.

Determine how big you should go

You can use a chandelier on a nine-foot-high ceiling, provided its size will be proportional. Higher ceilings would require a grander design. Choose a chandelier with lines to create the illusion of height.
