IKEA Has A New Product And It’s Not Furniture

Like the rest of their items, it packs flat and you can assemble it yourself

Swedish furniture company IKEA is well known for its simple, efficient, affordable, and democratic designs. Aside from their classic furniture pieces like the Poang Armchair and Gullholmen Rocking Chair, they continuously create new designs. But their latest product is quite surprising: they’ve just launched a bicycle.

Yes, you heard us right—the Sladda bicycle is IKEA’s groundbreaking entry into consumer transportation, and will be available in IKEA stores this February (it is currently available online).

Before all the serious cyclists out there turn up their noses at this bike, we’d like to tell you that the Sladda is being marketed as an everyday, family-friendly bike, and as an eco-friendly alternative to driving around in a car.

The Sladda's belt drive is a good alternative to an oily chain (the oil is considered harmful to the environment), and the overall design is, in true IKEA fashion, neutral and unisex enough to be appreciated by everybody. In fact, it won a Red Dot product design award for its “universal diversity.”

Another IKEA hallmark of the Sladda is that it comes to you packed flat, much like most of their furniture, and you are given a booklet of pictograms on how to assemble it yourself. You can also buy a rear bicycle trailer so you can haul your organic groceries or plants with it. So take our money, now!
