Fans Rush to Sign Up for IKEA Family, Crash Website
There were over 100k sign ups in the first minute!

If you’re one of the many, many IKEA fans who have tried signing up for IKEA Family on July 7 at midnight and weren’t able to, you’re not alone. Due to the sheer number of people excited for the arrival of the popular Swedish home improvement store in the country, ikea.family.com.ph portal crashed.
In a July 7 statement by IKEA Pasay City Store Manager Georg Platzer, he admits that they did not expect the amount of support they would get from the brand’s Filipino followers.
“We have been having technical problems with our website,” he shares in a video on IKEA’s Facebook page. “We have prepared to anticipate 120,000 signups in the first hour, but to all our surprise, we got a hundred thousand people who got to sign up already in the very first minute.”
Platzer takes it as a learning experience, and promises to improve operations online. “Please, rest assured that our teams are hard at work to resolve the issue, and the site will be back up again soon.”
IKEA Family is a club that acts as the company’s way of connecting with its customers. Membership is free, and members can enjoy discounts, freebies, and other updates from IKEA. Platzer reiterates that joining is forever free and will always be ongoing, so at any point you can simply visit the site to sign up—once it’s fixed, of course.
IKEA Philippines’ e-commerce store is set to open in the 3rd quarter of 2021, while the physical store is set to open in the 4th.
