You Can Do All These Fun Things In a Home Depot

Yes, you can eat, drink, hang out, and even get fit at the same place you buy furniture and construction materials!

We always think home depots are factory-like, utilitarian places to shop for hardware, plywood, and lightbulbs. But we’d like to let you in on a little insider secret: CW Home Depot Ortigas has become a destination of sorts for people who want to shop for their home, but have a little R&R on the side.

Designers often take their clients here to source because of the multiple home product stores (everything from modern furniture to vintage-style bathroom fittings can be found here), plus there are many restaurants and cafes to sit down and meet in post-sourcing. And once the home depot doors close, office workers head over to grab a bite and a beer at the bars within the complex. Check out our list of things to do; which are all good reasons to go out and shop for a new kitchen sink!

1. Shop at specialty stores

Aside from all the construction and finishing material shops within the main Home Depot, there are multiple specialty shops located around the building that offer customized pieces and furniture if you’re looking for a specific style. We do miss the beautiful Edition Lifestyle café and store, though, which was demolished to make way for new offices.

Urban Abode

If you’re going for a look that’s “warm industrial meets rustic chic,” then open the sturdy wooden door that leads to Urban Abode. Lovingly decorated by interior designer Kristine Neri-Magturo, the shop carries bespoke furniture designed by Kristine, factory-style lamps, and beautifully weathered vintage décor in its Instagram-ready nooks.

Keystone Lamps & Shades

From classical chandeliers complete with crystals and pleated shades to modern glass torchieres and industrial filament bulbs, Keystone has lamp and lighting styles for all interior looks. As a popular lighting source for designers and architects, Keystone also customizes lamp designs and shades.

Furniture Anthology

This furniture shop features rustic-elegant furniture pieces and accessories, from armchairs to beds. Check out their selection of trendy and unique lighting fixtures and modern chandeliers.

2. Eat and drink

After you’ve done all your sourcing, there are countless restaurants within the complex (aside from the old-time favorite North Park) to dine in before hauling your finds home.

Seared Restaurant & Lounge

Located at the ground floor of Technopoint Building, right next to an extremely busy Starbucks branch is Seared. The minimalist-modern interiors will definitely catch your eye, but the nicely-priced steak dishes will make you stay. Try the Malcolm’s X steak (P395), with a nice, lovely “S” seared right on top.

Hai Chix & Steaks

Nestled in a cozy industrial interior (industrial style seems to be the look of choice in this home depot), Hai Chix & Steaks dishes out their specials such as their Hainanese Chicken Rice set and the Ribeye Steak Paella.

Rue Bourbon

An old-time favorite of office workers wanting to unwind after a long day, and this branch doesn’t disappoint. The New Orleans-themed pub and resto serves bar standards such as chicken wings, but head straight here for their Caramel Beer.

3. Burn the calories

The complex also has a couple of fitness centers, which are great places to meet new friends and burn the calories from all the eating! After your workout, get a relaxing massage at Nuat Thai, which also has a branch in the area.

The Upper Deck Sports Center

Touted by fans as one of the best fitness centers in Metro Manila, The Upper Deck has something for everyone: well-maintained basketball and badminton courts, fully decked-out gyms (where you can spot the occasional model or celeb doing reps), a really cool spinning room (in photo), plus classes for yoga, Zumba, pole dancing and taekwondo. The Elorde Gym is also located next door.

4. Then drop by next door to…

City Golf

This old-time gimmick spot frequented by Valle Verde residents and Ortigas office workers has lots of favorite bars and restaurants like Barcinos . But do try one of its newest restos, Lo de Alberto, which is a very charming Mexican taqueria that is as authentic as it gets, as the chef Balam Nazar (and some of the staff) are Mexican. Order their taco samplers and wash them down with a refreshing Horchata (rice drink).

Don't forget to take an Instagram snap of Lo de Alberto's quirky Mexican interiors, with its tattoo-inspired murals and retablos, which was designed by Urban Abode’s Kristine Neri-Magturo. The designer is excited about other new developments in the home depot's complex. "Everything is here and it's convenient," she says. "We're excited about the food hall that will be opening soon in the next building."
