Buying the perfect gift for friends and relatives can be challenging and exciting. Since we all want to give something pretty and functional, we tend to overthink and end up buying items that they don't really need. Don't worry—we've got a list of questions that can help make buying gifts an easy and fruitful experience:

1. Determine the receiver's style

Buying an item just because you like it is a no-no—unless you and your friend like the same things always. Since this is rare, it's best that you pay her a visit at home and see what kind of decor she likes. Is she more of a minimalist or a maximalist? Does she like Asian-inspired pieces?

2. Find out where she shops

During one of your get-togethers, ask her about her favorite stores or if she can recommend a trusted brand to you. Chances are, her choices are her go-to stops, too!

3. Can she use the gift all year round?

To make the most of your gift and to make sure that she'll remember you always, give her something that's practical and functional. How about a pretty catchall or a wall accent? Avoid themed or seasonal decor as these might simply gather dust in the cabinet.

4. Will it serve more than one purpose?

Investing in dual-purpose must-haves can be a bit pricey. If you're keeping within a certain budget, see how your chosen gift can be maximized all over the house! A potted plant or an indoor plant can add a refreshing feel while purifying the air at home. A woven basket can be an accent piece in the living area or lanai, too.

6. Are you willing to spend?

Before heading out to visit stores and look for the right gift, make sure you have a budget in mind. Determine how much you're willing to spend and the maximum price you can afford. Remember, you don't need to spend thousands on one item—it's the thought that counts.
