We always have this notion that buying furniture for the home is expensive. Some of the prices can make us rethink and figure out where to get the money. However, if you do the math, it's really not that hard! All it takes is a bit of sacrifice plus knowing what your priorities are.

You can skip some of your simple joys so that you can get the investment piece that you have always wanted. How is this possible? Let's do the math:

Skip the expensive coffee

Most of us need caffeine to be able to function—especially in the morning. But consider this, the cost of a cup of coffee (P155) per work week is already around P800. In four months, that would equal to P12,400—enough to buy a low-end two-seater sofa!

To work around this, you may choose to enjoy your cup of coffee at home. You can also brew your own and bring it to work. Look at the bright side and think of it as an opportunity for you to craft your own signature drink!

Cut down on the designer items

Do you love rewarding yourself with new clothes and shoes every payday? While it's important to invest in work clothing, you may want to scrimp on the designer items. Your budget for a slightly used designer bag (P40,800) can be used to buy a new area rug (P24,517), an affordable two-seater sofa (P12,400), and two quality pillows (P1,750 each) that can liven up your space.

Take a temporary travel hiatus

It’s nice to book a trip and go on a luxurious holiday with your loved ones. However, if you need to furnish your home with a sturdier bed or sofa, you may want to reschedule your trip. A three-day Boracay vacation for two people roughly costs P26,260. This same amount can be used to purchase a mid-range bed frame (P18,000) and a double spring sturdy mattress (P9,010).
