7 Easy Steps for a Kitchen Sink Makeover Under P1000

Entrepreneur and stylist Beam Mariano shares a step-by-step guide on transforming an old kitchen fixture

When I moved into my 30sqm apartment, I found out that the kitchen sink was not the industrial stainless steel kind that the manufacturers advertised! The old sink had rust spots and discoloring on some parts.

Since I couldn't spend a lot of money, I couldn’t replace my unit’s default sink with the brand-new porcelain sink of my dreams. So, I researched online and looked for ideas on how to improve my existing sink.

If you are on a tight decorating budget (like me!), check out the 6 steps that I followed for an upgraded sink:

Prepare materials
For this project, you will need the following:
  • Rag
  • Multi-purpose Cleaner
  • Scraper
  • Masking Tape
  • Old Newspaper
  • Paint Brush
  • Rust Primer
  • Latex Paint
Clean the kitchen sink

Use the rag and multi-purpose cleaner for a spotless sink.

Scrape off paint droplets

To make the sink surface even, you should always remove paint droplets on the kitchen sink.

Cover the kitchen sink with masking tape and newspaper

Line the sink with masking tape and newspaper so that you don’t accidentally paint the countertop!

Use rust primer

Apply a coat of rust primer on the sink. Let it dry overnight.

Apply latex paint

When the rust primer is dry, apply the latex paint. As with most everything in my apartment, I used white paint.

RL Tip: Remember to let the newly painted sink dry completely!

Enjoy your revamped kitchen sink
