5 Things to Love at Lokal

Get ready to go loco in this lifestyle store in Marikina

If you happen to be along Lilac Street in Marikina, swing by Lokal Home+Art+Fashion. Owner Connie Macatuno says that after six years of selling at the Legazpi Market in Makati City, a friend of hers suggested that she put up a store. And that's how Lokal was born.

At Lokal, every corner is a visual feast. You'll never run out of things to look at or inspire you. Here are some of them:

1. Hand-painted artwork

These are works of Connie's 13-year-old son Cax. "Lahat ng products with hand-painted artwork…nanggaling sa aming dalawa ng anak ko," says Connie. Check out the chairs with hand-painted illustrations on their backrests and stools with hand-painted faces of Mona Lisa and Madonna. Don't forget to check out the door of the fitting room as well: Cax's quirky illustrations won't fail to put a smile on your face.

2. Boho fashion accessories

Wear your personality on your sleeve (or on your neck or on your wrist) with the store's vintage accessories from local fashion brands. Check out the wire bangles, necklaces in bold colors, and scarves. Even if you're not into the boho style, a colorful piece or two won't hurt, especially if you want to jazz up a plain outfit.

3. One-of-a-kind home decor

Where else can you find a lamp shade with hand-painted illustrations? Or door stoppers that look like dolls? These are perfect additions to just about any corner in your house.

4. The cozy sitting area

This corner seems to invite everyone to just sit and have a good time. "Lahat ng tao na nauupo rito, nagto-talk show. They don't know each other," says Connie. Try sitting there, and you might find yourself making new friends and meeting fellow Lokal customers.

5. The mural by the entrance

When you see a store with a red door, you just have to check it out. And as if the red door is not enough, Lokal customers are welcomed by an impressive mural made by Cax. Take a few shots for your #OOTDs, or simply take a photo of the wall and share it on social media for your friends to appreciate.
