It's impossible to understate how we all need to do our part to help save the environment; the Earth is our only home, after all. More than steps as individuals, there is also major (and rightful) pressure for mega corporations to lead the change, especially when you factor in their overall impact. McDonald's, for one, has taken small steps in the right direction with their solar-powered restaurants in Manila and Mandaluyong—and they're now opening two more branches of this sort outside the Metro, specifically in Pampanga and Albay.

Check out the new McDonald's solar-powered restaurants outside Manila:

McDonald's is set to open new stores in Arayat, Pampanga and Ligao, Albay. "These stores are equipped with grid-tied... solar photovoltaic systems connected to the local utility grid, and [are] a cost-effective option to supplement energy requirements," the fastfood chain shares in a statement. They've got potentially more than 70,000 KWH in estimated annual power generation; that's equivalent to approximately less 17,000 kg of CO2 emissions. Features will include solar lamp posts, photo and motion sensors, and high-performance glass film, ergo, less energy consumption. You can also expect the stores to employ eco-friendly air conditioning, proper waste disposal, and of course, sustainable packaging.
