The veggie plantation in Don Bosco Parish managed to feed its community during the pandemic.
COVID-19 has pushed many of us to rethink our ways of using our resources, and with food not getting regularly transported to different distribution points during the start of the pandemic, many communities came together to create their own sources. One example is the community garden in Quezon City. Another is the 8,000-square meter Don Bosco Parish football field in Tondo, which has now been transformed into an urban vegetable farm.

While the parish was looking for ways to utilize the lot, the Department of Agrarian Reform came and offered to help them turn the land into a small vegetable farm. With the help of the Department of Agriculture who brought in farmer-scientists to teach the community how to grow crops, it later on became the pilot of DAR’s “Buhay sa Gulay” project.
