Good News: There Will Be More Trees in the Metro Soon
Several seedlings were planted along the banks of the Pasig River
In the fast-paced concrete jungle of Metro Manila, you're probably more likely to see towering skycrapers and several vehicles stuck in traffic instead of a glimpse of nature. Thankfully, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - National Capital Region chapter is out to change that. On September 21, its Manila Bay Site Coordinating/Management Office, in coordination with the Pasig-Marikina-San Juan River Management Committee, conducted a tree-planting activity along the banks of Pasig River in Brgy. Barangka Ilya, Mandaluyong City.

Forty-nine bamboo seedlings and 37 bandera de espana seedlings were planted along the riverbanks in an effort to rehabilitate its bare areas. Several volunteers took part in the activity, including Mandaluyong City Mayor Carmelita A. Abalos as well as other local government officials.

Here's hoping that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has several more tree-planting activities lined up in the near future.
