Before building or renovating your home, make sure that you've already finalized the things you need per area. It also helps if you already have in mind the function of each space! Will it be used for entertaining, cooking, or relaxing? Knowing these things can help you achieve a home that's not only pretty but practical, too!

Here are four questions that will surely help you! Once you're done going over this list, consult with a design professional to seek expert advice.

Can you live in a space that combines the dining and kitchen areas?

You love parties and you love having friends over. How can you be a perfect host if you're friends cannot enjoy their food in a limited space? While it's inevitable to have an open layout where one space flows freely to the next, you can deal with these by having DIY dividers! Separate the kitchen from the dining area by having a console table or shelf. You can also craft a beaded curtain that you can easily hang between the two areas.

Do you need a covered outdoor area?

If you're blessed with a sprawling outdoor space, do you need to shield the lanai from the harsh weather? Given our country's unpredictable weather, it's best to invest in a sturdy roof that can protect your furniture and other pieces from harmful sun rays and heavy rains.

Do I need a bathroom in each bedroom?

Consider how many you are in the family. If you’re building a starter home, a shared bathroom is ideal. Just make sure that it's safe for both kids and the elderly. Depending on your floor area and available space, you may also opt to have a master's bathroom and an extra bathroom that can accommodate guests and your kids.

Do you need a separate storage room or bodega?

If you are renovating your space, consider the things that you have. Are they too many that you need an extra room where you can store old items and extra supplies? If you can carefully organize your things, it might be best to turn an extra room into a guest bedroom instead of a storage room.
