RL Makeovers: A Living, Dining, and Kitchen Renovation in Pasig

Discover how design consultant Grace Moslares changed a family home for only P112,500

Original Article: Kathleen Valle Photography: Jun Pinzon Pictorial Direction: Coni Tejada

Real Living reader Abby Pozon has always wanted to surprise her mom Betty and the rest of their family with an improved living area. To fulfill her dream, she sent entries to Real Living Makeovers for two consecutive years. When she finally won a makeover, she got an unexpected bonus: design consultant Grace Moslares also spruced up the family's kitchen and dining areas.

With a budget of over P100,000, Grace painted walls, replaced furniture, changed slipcovers and lights and more. The result is a special space that Abby and her entire family truly appreciate.

Reuse existing furniture

Grace covered the existing seats with off-white curtain fabric from Robinsons Department Store. She decorated the new slipcovers with black ribbons as accents.

Separate the areas

Instead of building a wall or buying a divider, Grace simply defined the areas with an area rug. This creates an airy and open feel.

Rearrange the pieces

Grace moved the couch, separated the chairs, and placed the TV on another wall facing the dining area. The new setup brought the seating pieces closer to create an environment perfect for family bonding.

Create a focal point

Since Grace already moved the TV, she had to create a different focal point to tie everything together. The wall is now adorned with a cherry blossom print by Tanya Gutang. The framed piece, printed by Gallery7, creates a happy vibe in the space.

Choose a color palette

Inspired by the cherry blossom print, Grace dressed up the living area in white, pink, and purple. She added black touches to balance everything out.

Update the lights

Grace added a new understated raffia droplight in the living area. She also painted the existing droplight/ceiling fan in the living area and moved it here.

Create an accent wall

Grace also adorned a wall with an oversized mirror that already belonged to the family. She paired it with a buffet table topped with family photos.

Paint the cabinets

To match the new slipcovers of the dining chairs, Grace painted the kitchen cabinets white. It also complements the other hues in the space.

Opt for attractive organizers

To keep the kitchen spic-and-span, Grace picked out a wooden spice rack and dish organizer from Robinsons Department Store.

Choose a new induction cooktop

Since Abby also wanted a new induction stove for her mom, Grace purchased one from Robinsons Department Store.

How Much It Costs:

Paint and construction materials - P 31,000
Robinsons Department Store
Pillows, frames, decor, curtains, cooktop - P 40,000
Labor - P 41,500
