A Budget-Friendly Dining and Living Room Makeover for a Rental Home
Practical and unified changes can go a long way.

Living in a rental home often feels like there’s very little personalization and customization you can do. Most property owners prohibit drilling into walls, adding installations, and constructing semi- or permanent fixtures, and it makes sense—after all, at some point, you’ll have to move out.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t make your space your own, so to speak. Design-wise, there are a lot of things you can do to make your rental a reflection of your personal tastes. In this installation of DIY Makeover, design student Maxine Villaret shows us how she did it in the home her family rents with a change in palette and a few additional pieces, all of which can be dismantled and packed once they move out.
