Elle Uy Shares How She Upgraded Her Rental Kitchen

When refurbishing certain parts of your home, it’s important to always have a vision of what you want the space to look like and function before you even start. For interior decorator Elle Uy, she knew exactly what look she was going for when she began renovating her rental home’s kitchen. It was initially a space of basic brown cabinets and a straight counter, but it was a layout that worked for her: it just needed a few tweaks.

Alam kong malaki ang potential ng kitchen na ito kaya hindi ako natinag sa brownness niya,” she said in one of her recent videos. “Ang pinaka design na talagang pinili ko, ‘yong mas simple lang.”

She gave the cabinets an upgrade by adding doors and giving them, the backsplash, and the storage areas beneath the sink a white base in preparation for the finish.

Her kitchen island is also custom-made: it can be easily disassembled for easy transport and storage.

Picking from three shades of peachy pink, Elle shared the importance of coordinating with your landlord about any changes you’re planning to make in your unit.

Another tip to take note of: always have an image of the look you want for your space with you. Save it in your phone or tablet (including measurements) so just in case you need to compare the plans with the actual result, the information is always handy.

Details give any area of the home personality, so it’s important for you to pick which items resonate with you and blend with your overall theme. Elle picked clear handles with gold trimmings for her cabinets, adding to the “girly glam” look of her kitchen.

With its bright color, free-standing island, and a foldable divider, Elle managed to turn the kitchen into its own zone, separate from the more neutral palettes of the rest of her apartment. “Kahit na rental kitchen siya, as in nalagyan natin ng personality.”
