Every parent wants to create a safe, cozy, and comfortable haven for their child. However, this is often easier said than done, especially when the room has to be shared by a son and a daughter. For one, it can be difficult to decide on a gender-neutral color scheme. It can also be challenging to have enough space for two, instead of one.

Homeowner Shirley Gonzales-Chu knows this problem all too well. Although she wanted to make the perfect place for kids Kenan and Kiara, she simply didn't know where to begin. They ended up with a cluttered and disorganized place. Thankfully, interior designer Hannah Acab-Faustino knew exactly what to do.

If you would like to make the most of your kiddie room, here are 5 tips and tricks inspired by this charming corner:

A corkboard and cabinet used to be placed in front of the bedroom door. However, things facing any door can make the room look so much smaller than it really is.

In line with this thought, Hannah decided to move these belongings to the other side.

Hannah also found ways to spruce up these old pieces! For a clean and streamlined look, she painted the corkboard white and covered the cabinet drawers with laminate material. To make it easier to open the drawers, easy-slide drawer guides were also installed.

What can you do with a drab and dated cabinet? You can paint the cabinet white and install corkboards for displaying your kids' pictures, artworks, and other bits and pieces.

Instead of using furniture pieces covered with cartoon prints, you may want to pick items that have solid colors. To add more character and personality, you can choose pillows and curtains with fun patterns.

Although the layout of the room remained pretty much the same, the space looks absolutely different because it is not as messy as it used to be! In order to transform your own place, you can also donate or recycle possessions that you no longer use.
