“Five more minutes.” This is probably one of the biggest lies ever told. Those five minutes can stretch out to 15 or 30 minutes, or even an hour. And when you finally wake up, you’ll realize that you’re going to be late, so you hurry through your morning routine like a tornado.

Save yourself from this crazy morning situation. Heed these tips and get ready to say, “Good morning, World!”

1. Make your bed cozy.

Nothing worse can hold you back in the morning than insufficient amount of sleep. Make sure you get seven to eight hours of sleep. Create a comfortable bed by investing in good pillows and bed sheets. Lavender scent can help you relax and sleep better—spray some in your room the night before.

2. Dress your window in sheer curtains.

Let natural light subtly stream into your room in the morning with the use of sheer curtains. You can also draw your blinds halfway to let sunlight in, thus waking you up in the morning.

3. If you work the night shift, use blackout curtains.

Blackout curtains let in zero amount of light, so use them if you sleep during the day. This bedroom has both sheer and blackout curtains. You can do the same so you can control the light that enters the room.

Get blackout curtains at Larry’s, 4/L Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

4. Put your alarm clock or cellphone away from your bed.

Yes, put it far from your bed and not on your bedside table. It’s easy to turn it off or hit the snooze button if your alarm is only within an arm’s reach. Putting it far from your bed will compel you to get up—just don’t turn it off and go back to bed.
