WATCH: This Paint Ad For Mother’s Day Will Give You The Laughs
Do you love it or hate it? It’s definitely an unusual ad, but Boysen has always been known for their unconventional, funny TVCs.
It is one of the most unusual Mother’s Day (and paint) ads. In the "Laveeet" video from Boysen, a teenage girl is duped by her supposed boyfriend, and her exposed, literally broken heart spews buckets of blood, covering the walls and staining the furniture of her lovely house. Her mom, appalled (Who wouldn’t be? Your walls are covered in blood a la The Shining!), comes to the rescue of the blood-streaked walls with a fresh coat of Boysen paint.
The ad, which aired on the evening of May 12 in time for Mother’s Day, has garnered its share of online critics. Some netizens derided the ad for using foul language (the profanities are watered down, though), and others commented that the gore was inappropriate for Mother’s Day. But most of the viewers loved it, commenting that “Mothers always come to the rescue,” while others identified with the teenage girl. This comment from one netizen sums up the hugot: “Sa dami ng bumiyak ng puso ko, mansyon na ang pwedeng pinturahan.”
But love it or hate it, the ad taps into the classic Pinoy fondness for hugot, overly protective mothers, and revenge fantasies. And Real Living isn’t surprised, because Boysen is known for their funny and unusual TV ads, such as the painted-over, hen-pecked son-in-law in “Mother-In-Law” (played by Mae Paner), and “Preso,” wherein a convict grows old while his jail cell’s coat of paint stays fresh.
Funny ads aside, Boysen has currently been experimenting with various ways to present paint, such as the Boysen Color Play Booth, which is doing its rounds in the various construction trade shows. In this booth, you choose different-shaped blocks, which you then paint with Boysen’s 2017 colors (the blocks can be used as paper weights, desk ornaments, or toys).
