WATCH: A 92sqm Three-Storey Container Van Home
Who knew you can do so much with five shipping containers?
For most married couples, it is typical to invest in a home where you can grow old and spend time with each other. Michele Bertomen and David Boyle wanted to do just that when they bought their 60-year-old, 20x40 feet (around 92sqm) patch of land in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
As much as they wanted to have a traditional house built, their budget didn't allow it. When their bid for the masonry arrived, it was priced at over $300,000 (around P14,200,000) so they made a mutual decision to go with using shipping containers and maximizing vertical space instead.
For five vans and the construction, it cost them about $50,000 (a little over P 2,000,000). The fact that Michele was an architect by profession and David a general contractor also helped as they were able to save more on manpower, too! Take a virtual tour of their quirky, three-storey haven below:
