Sorsogon's Century-Old Capitol Is All Lit Up for Christmas
It's truly captivating!
You just know that Christmas is only a few weeks away when photos of festive decor and cheery sights start flooding your social media feed. There are videos of the amazing lights and sounds show at Ayala Triangle Gardens in Makati City, selfies taken at Bonifacio High Street’s Pixar Playtown, and snaps at Eastwood’s Enchanted Forest of Lights. Outside Metro Manila, there are government buildings that have taken on the task of spreading holiday cheer through colorful lights. Take, for example, Sorsogon’s 102-year-old Provincial Capitol, which is covered with LED lights that change colors.

Sorsogon, a province in the Bicol Region, may not always be top-of-mind when it comes to weekend destinations. It is one of the region's most isolated areas, lying at the tip of the Bicol Peninsula and surrounded mostly by water—making it a paradise for beach-lovers and surfers. Sorsogon, after all, is famous for its whalesharks in Donsol, the enchanted Lake Bulusan (which happened to be the shooting location of Lav Diaz' Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis), and amazing surfing waves in Gubat. Its capitol building, which was built in 1916, is a destination in itself for the century-old structure and Roman Gothic columns on its façade.
