RL Space 2015: See the Charming Workshop Area
Be inspired by this creative space
Whether you're into calligraphy or crafting, it's important to have a space where you can feel inspired. It's also ideal to have a corner where you can let your creative juices flow to be able to come up with lovely projects that you can display at home.
RL Space will have free workshops this weekend and we made sure that you will feel comfortable while listening to the talks. Real Living tapped Cosmopolitan Philippines' former editor, Camyl Besinga to design the space. Camyl is balancing her time between freelance writing, styling, and taking up a design course at the New York Institute of Art and Design.
Discover more about the workshop/lobby area that you will see when you visit RL Space this weekend:
When Camyl learned that she will style the lobby of the showroom, she immediately wanted to bring the outdoors in. Since the lobby has huge floor-to-ceiling windows–giving visitors a view of the outside, she wanted a seamless and natural transition. The final look features a Scandinavian style with botanical touches. The area also highlights grays, greens, and lightly stained wooden furniture.
Challenges of the Space
"For the space assigned to me, there were two built-in signage cabinets that blocked the view. Instead of covering it up, I incorporated it into my setup by creating a feature wall. I taped up pages from an old vintage Chemistry textbook (picked up from a garage sale some years back!) on the cabinet doors. I then downloaded free botanical prints from the internet (look for the free downloads from Apartment Therapy) and printed them out, and washi-taped them over the Chemistry pages," Camyl shares.
RL Tip: If you want to do this in an actual room, Camyl suggests using a finishing adhesive like Mod Podge to stick the paper to the wall.
What are some of the pieces that were showcased in the space? One would immediately notice the lovely dining table from Mav Furniture! "Its size is perfect even as a work desk. I also loved its clean but textured finish," Camyl shares. A pair of nesting tables from L'Indochine can also be found in the area. The hand carving is really a sight to see!
Given the existing structures in the lobby, Camyl was able to incorporate these into the look that she has in mind for the area. This applies to our own homes, too! You can try to highlight it and put it too good use.
