RL News: Fake Cobonpue Furniture Destroyed

The imitation items were said to be from a furniture shop found along the national highway from Sta. Rosa Laguna to Tagaytay

Designing a piece of furniture is no easy feat. It involves time, effort, and research that will cover the tiniest of details. Unfortunately, there are a few who'd rather copy the designs of others and create low quality versions. World renowned furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue has been one of the prominent figures in the industry who went after copyright violators.

In a report by the Inquirer, Cobonpue recently obtained an order from Judge Jaime Santiago of Branch 18 of the Tagaytay City Regional Trial Court to destroy fake furniture from RSK, a shop located along the national highway from Sta. Rosa, Laguna to Tagaytay. Some of the pieces that they copied include the designer's iconic Yoda chair and the Dragnet and Voyage chairs. Cobonpue was present as the items were destroyed. He considers the event as a "victory for intellectual property rights" not just for himself but for other Filipino designers too. He also posted an update on his official Facebook page:
