Filipino Femtech Startup Launches First Hybrid Women's Health Clinic in the Philippines

Fintech, proptech, edtech—there are countless fields in the startup world, but one niche that you should keep an eye out on is femtech, a growing area not just here in the Philippines but all across the world.

Kindred is the latest local femtech startup, run by women for women, and the founders recently launched the country’s first-ever hybrid women’s health clinic in the Philippines.

Located on the second floor of Serendra Mall in BGC, Kindred’s clinic operates online and offline, giving women the opportunity to check in with their doctors anywhere at any time. The hybrid model allows women to stay connected with their doctors by creating a “continuum of care” that’s often lost in the typical hospital-visit setup. This model isn’t new in the medtech realm, which streamlined telemedicine visits during the pandemic. But it is a novelty in that Kindred’s focus is solely on women.

Kindred prides itself as a safe space for women where they can seek help in a nonjudgmental environment. Founded by former nurse Maria Jessica J. de Mesa and medtech entrepreneur Abetina E. Valenzuela, the startup’s online and offline services are designed to welcome women into a comfortable space without worrying about the stigma and taboo around feminine health. At Kindred, women can learn about pregnancy, fertility, sexually transmitted infections, birth control, menstruation, miscarriages, menopause, and even Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS.

Kindred seems like a seamless blend of tech, medicine, and hospitality with the goal of empowering women to take charge of their own health. The startup connects patients with specialists in everything from obstetrics and gynecology to sex therapy and fertility. Kindred’s other services include access to contraceptives, vaccines, IV therapy, and wellness support. The health clinic also offers health screening packages, which are curated toward the treatment of common diagnoses, like the PCOS package or the Urinary Tract Infection package.

The BGC clinic is the first hybrid clinic from Kindred, but the company says it won’t be the last. The startup's goal is to launch a clinic in every major region in the Philippines. It will also be rolling out an app by February 2023.

Kindred’s online services have been live since earlier this year, and the startup’s new clinic is a prerequisite to onboarding HMO insurance for its patients.
