This home is not just a sanctuary for the sculptor and furniture designer Karl Aguila and his family. It’s also a gallery filled with consigned art pieces and his personal creations.
The artist’s signature use of solid wood and his wife’s fondness for textiles are very much evident in the different areas of the home. It’s also filled with rustic finds and exotic artifacts.
The family wanted a cozy house that’s unpretentious. They also envisioned a space with classic Mediterranean characteristics like stucco walls, a tiled roof, and terracotta floors, to name a few.
With the help of architect Joel Selga of Selga Konstract, the house was built to look like an old house with Mediterranean style – complete with weathered doors and moss-grown walls.
Even from her childhood, the owner has always dreamt of living in a Mediterranean villa or a Mexican casa. With the assistance of architect Edward Gagarin, her vision of having an open space came to life.
The home highlights multicolored, intricately designed tiles, and disheveled bricks that give it a rustic yet homey atmosphere.
