IDesign Stories: A Big Design Contest For Students

Design students often have a fixed schedule of classes, esquisses (drawing exams), and take-home plates, plus their big exhibit before graduating.

Now, students have a chance of showing their designing chops to the public by joining iDisenyo’s IDesign Stories: Amazing Visions and Directions, a competition for students to come up with creative visions for the thriving companies of The Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines, Inc. (CFIP) that will influence the future of furniture design and boost brand marketing. Briefing for the contest will be held this November 18 at 9AM at the Tea Room in UP Diliman.

The iDisenyo competition, held annually by the University of the Philippines Interior Design Alumni Association (UPIDAA), is an interior design competition where students from different design schools such as UST, PSID, UP, EARIST, PUP and others participate in solving specific problems and themes, all while considering real-life ethics and situations. Past themes included 2015’s KalamIDad: Interior Design in Times of Calamity, wherein students came up with residences that had flexible safety features in case of floods and other natural disasters. Another notable theme was iDisenyo 2014, wherein students created adaptive reuse programs for existing heritage structures like the Metropolitan Theater, Monte de Piedad, and Aduana in Intramuros.

In IDesign Stories, 10 to 16 entries will get a chance to have their designs prototyped and exhibited at the Philippine International Furniture Show (PIFS) on March 9 to 11, 2017, while selected entries will be exhibited at the ASEAN show. Cash prizes range from P20,000 as the third prize to P100,000 as the grand prize.
