Host A School-Themed Reunion

You don't have to rent a fancy venue to catch up with your former classmates

How many of you meet up at a fancy restaurant when you want to see your high school or college classmates? While catching up over cheese and wine sounds great, it can terribly hit your pockets. Find an affordable alternative—why don’t you hold it in your school’s gym or at your village’s covered court? Renting these venues is easy on the pocket, or better yet, free! Here’s how you can create a school-themed gathering:

1. Make throwback-worthy table names.

Remember how your class secretary lists on the board who among your classmates are noisy and standing, or who are the assigned cleaners? Use these as table names! Write this on a board and put it by the venue entrance so your guests can see which table they are supposed to be at.

2. Assign seats using apples and use books as centerpieces.

Ditch the place cards—create a classroom vibe with apples! Put your guests’ names on these fruits and use these to mark their assigned seats. Gather old encyclopedias, dictionaries, and textbooks and use these as centerpieces instead of flowers. Put the table name on top of these books so guests can quickly see the table they’re assigned to.

3. Serve cafeteria comfort food.

Reminisce your recess and lunch breaks by serving food you used to buy in your school canteen. Go for simple food like Pinoy-style spaghetti, fried chicken, hotdogs, and easy-to-make sandwiches. For drinks, serve those you used to buy in your school canteen as well: juices or sago’t gulaman ladled from a plastic jar!

4. Have cupcakes for dessert.

They’re easy to make or buy from bakeshops. You can simply put them on a tray and let your guests dig in.

5. Make the atmosphere festive using balloons.

Throw them on the floor and have fun playing catch or kicking them around as you all bust your moves on the dance floor. Have fun!
