Halloween Party Ideas: What's Your Fortune?
Is it fame? Wealth? Or love? Attend our fortune-telling party and find out for yourself
If drunken Halloween fests have left you more hung-over than horrified and your vampire costume has seen better days, throw a party that puts a twist on things psychic and supernatural. Discover your inner clairvoyance, round up the gang and host a fortune-telling party. Dust off your palm-reading books, shake up those runes or whip out your tarot cards—even ordinary playing cards can do—or go all out and hire an actual palm or tarot reader. Just remember: don’t take your fortunes too seriously. This should all be done in the name of fun, because your future is what you make it.

Your home will be moody and mystical. Up the room’s ambience by curtaining off the windows and dimming the lights. Add votive candles, positive-energy crystals, and blood-red roses. Set up a simple buffet table draped in red cloth, and arrange several smaller tables to encourage palm and tarot reading groups. Or set aside armchairs to create intimate corners and nooks where guests can attempt to fulfill their readings.
Filled with excitement and good food. The menu can be fabulous but no-frills in preparation—choose portable pica that can be toted by guests to their reading tables, in spicy flavors and liquor-spiked rolls to pique the sensual mood. Top it off with a silky, voluptuous dessert like chocolate mousse.
Fun once you get the drinks flowing. If you’re into spirits, red wine is enough to loosen things up. For guests who can’t take alcohol, serve raspberry sparkle punch or virgin cosmopolitans (mix equal parts soda water and cranberry juice, add a splash of fresh lime juice and a maraschino cherry).
*Make your fortune-telling more fun by checking out some books! National Bookstore has books on tarot reading, palm reading, and dream interpretation, to name a few.
