Calyxta is more than just a website that sells makeup—it’s a lifestyle. Since they opened shop in December 2014, girls and makeup lovers everywhere have had access to brands that are otherwise impossible to get locally. It’s a community that also serves as a hub for exchanging ideas with tutorials, reviews, and editorials that celebrate the modern, cool, and chic Filipina.

The brand's open office in the heart of Legaspi Village brings to mind the style of Brooklyn warehouses-turned-lofts, with its bare finishes, open plumbing, and polished cement floors. “It wasn’t always like this,” says Alfonso De Dios, CEO and founder of Calyxta. “We had to tear out the ceiling and expose the plumbing because the ceiling was so low. Luckily, that kept with the look we wanted.”

Alfonso's sister, architect and interior designer Carmina De Dios, stepped in to renovate and design the office when they acquired the space in March 2016. The first thing you’ll notice in the predominantly neutral office space of Calyxta is a striking, vibrant mural—created by artist Lee Sandoval—that’s more urban and street than the usual pearly whites and pinks associated with makeup.
