This Makeup Store Will Inspire You To Work With Industrial Style

The Calyxta headquarters is an urban playground for cool girls

Calyxta is more than just a website that sells makeup—it’s a lifestyle. Since they opened shop in December 2014, girls and makeup lovers everywhere have had access to brands that are otherwise impossible to get locally. It’s a community that also serves as a hub for exchanging ideas with tutorials, reviews, and editorials that celebrate the modern, cool, and chic Filipina.

The brand's open office in the heart of Legaspi Village brings to mind the style of Brooklyn warehouses-turned-lofts, with its bare finishes, open plumbing, and polished cement floors. “It wasn’t always like this,” says Alfonso De Dios, CEO and founder of Calyxta. “We had to tear out the ceiling and expose the plumbing because the ceiling was so low. Luckily, that kept with the look we wanted.”

Alfonso's sister, architect and interior designer Carmina De Dios, stepped in to renovate and design the office when they acquired the space in March 2016. The first thing you’ll notice in the predominantly neutral office space of Calyxta is a striking, vibrant mural—created by artist Lee Sandoval—that’s more urban and street than the usual pearly whites and pinks associated with makeup.

Not only that, they also have a vanity station that is every girl’s dream. The custom-made shelves made of pipes and wood echo the tall, movable tables and hold samples of all of Calyxta’s products. Walk-in customers can come to test and buy any of the items stocked here.

Meanwhile, a mix of antique Filipino furniture and newer, more industrial accent pieces that were custom-made are distributed strategically around the main space to create areas with different functions.

On the other side of the room, a sideboard holds the coffee station with fresh, brewed coffee available to anyone. This wooden piece was also sourced from Bangkal, and the natural wood finish goes well with the industrial-style backdrop of cement and bare, white walls.

The owners wanted the office to be conducive to new, fresh ideas, where the team can work wherever they feel more creative in—and this space is the perfect playground.

Calyxta is located at Unit 51, 178 Legaspi Suites, Salcedo St., Makati City. You can call them at 892-0290 or check out their Facebook page.
