This Interactive Festival Teaches You About Architecture

Even if you are not an architect or designer, you will have fun and learn a lot with this first ever interactive architectural festival in the Philippines

Have you every wondered how architects and designers come up with their spaces and creations? Or are you thinking about taking up architecture or design and you are looking for inspiration? Then go to the Artkitektura Fesitval 2017, the first ever learning program in the Philippines that aims to educate and inspire the youth and professionals. Hosted by Ayala Malls, the Artkitektura Festival brings to the forefront the idea that architecture can exist in harmony with nature and enhance the human experience.

Happening this August up until October, these are the events and exhibitions to look forward to:

A Mañosa exhibit in a mall.

When it comes to great architecture, what better way to kick off the festival than with an inspiring exhibit by no less than the Filipino master himself, Architect Francisco "Bobby" Mañosa. As a traveling exhibit that is an extension of their Beyond Architecture exhibition at the National Museum, this pop-up exhibit will be held at Alabang Town Center Activity Center (August 6-17) and TriNoMa Cinema Lobby (August 18-September 9), Ayala Malls brings the tribute exhibit – “MAÑOSA: Beyond Architecture,” which allows visitors to have a close inspection of his orginal works.

Outdoor "sound" exhibits.

From August 8 to October 8, 2017, walk through and around Greenbelt Park and experience a unique art installation designed by Teresa Barozza, a sound artist, composer and recipient of the Ani ng Dangal Award from the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts. Titled “Vocalizations,” the installation creates a truly unique, all-sensory experience, weaving together color, ambient sounds, and movement, which highlight how nature is very much alive and vibrant.

Fine examples of modern Filipino chair designs.

The Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines (CFIP) will be adding a local touch with their exhibit “Silya,” which highlights Filipino-organic furniture design at the Greenbelt 5 Gallery from August 22 to September 10. Passersby are invited to take a seat on the chairs made from native materials and see how furniture influences the mood and movement within a space. In aaddition, CFIP will also be hosting talks with featured designers on the weekends of August to September at the Greenbelt Gallery.

Design talks with international and local speakers.

At the Ayala Museum from August 24 to 27, architecture students, design practitioners and students can learn and listen from industry leaders and renowned names in architecture who have made a mark in their respective countries. The panel includes Gregory Burgess (who will head the talk “Working with Living Architecture”), Richard Coleman (“Learning from Heritage Townscapes”), Luis Lopez (“Bamboo, Material of the Future”), Nicanor Perlas (“The 12 Senses and the Environment”), Nicolas Pople (“Design Process and Sustainable Design”) and Pieter van der Ress (“Philosophy of Living Architecture”).
