Here's Where To Buy Affordable Art In Makati

Now that Art Fair Philippines 2018 is over and done with, its more low-cost and laid-back counterpart—Art in the Park—is ready to occupy Makati City's Jaime Velasquez Park. It is scheduled on April 15, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., so grab your umbrellas and ready your walking shoes as Manila's affordable art fair opens soon.

Here's a rundown of everything you need to know about one of Manila's biggest art festivals:

Tickets

Unlike Art Fair Philippines, there is no ticket! This basically means that you can get in for free.

Time

Since it's free-for-all, expect a surge of people to be there on the big day! You can come in as early as 10 a.m. if you want to have the first look of all available artworks for sale. (By the way, people start to line up outside the venue as early as 7 a.m., so you may have to wake up earlier than usual...on a Sunday.) But you can also arrive as late as 7 p.m., which brings a totally different mood to Art in the Parkâa more relaxed atmosphere, friendlier visitors (probably care of the wine), and shorter queues at the food booths.

Venue

Jaime Velasquez Park has always been the spot of Art in the Park since its inception in 2006. This small urban community park covers 0.7 hectares of the residential and commercial zone in Salcedo Village.

Art for Sale

With the goal of making Philippine modern and contemporary art more accessible to more people, Art in the Park prescribes a cap of P50,000 for all artworks for sale. A portion of all sales will go the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, which directly funds various projects by the National Museum of the Philippines, including the renovation of the soon-to-open National Museum of Natural History.

Artist Rendition of "Colony" by Tekla Tamoria

Featured Artists

This year's Art in the Park highlights installations by Tekla Tamoria and a collage by Jacob Lindo. Tamoria presents her paper installations called "Colony," which features her signature style of hexagon-shaped holes out of folded paper to form a half sphere. These beehive-like creations will adorn the park's trees and project shadows on the pavement of Salcedo Park.

Booths: Art, Music, and Food

Fifty-nine galleries, collectives, and student organizations are coming together for Art in the Park 2018. This includes 1335MABINI, Altro Mondo Gallery, Ang I.n.K., Archivo 1984, Arnold Art Collection, and more.

Aside from the art booths, food concessionaires are also available to satisfy the fairgoers' hunger. This year's featured chef is Margarita Fores, who is giving street food a more gourmet twist.

Soulful Mood will provide soothing jazz music throughout the day while Bea Lorenzo will be serenading guests in the evening.
