It’s always a treat to take a peek inside spacious family homes made more special with curated décor and unique ambiance. Take for example the home that broadcast journalist Lyn Ching shares with her husband and children. It’s a tropical retreat completed with jalousie windows, a sweeping staircase, and a cozy gazebo, to boot! To inspire you to build your own dream family home, here are some of the things we loved in this property:

1. The grand staircase

Given the home’s high ceiling, the owners were able to have a wooden grand staircase that further gives the home an airy and spacious feel. It also complements the snug living area.

2. The floor-to-ceiling jalousie windows

The abundance of natural light in this home makes it more homey and perfect for the family of four and their guests. The huge windows let in natural light and make the living area seem more comforting.

3. The paradise-like outdoor area

Since the home occupies 500sqm of the 1,200sqm lot owned by Lyn’s in-laws, they have a view of the nearby property. This pool area can be seen through the back windows of their home—somehow serving as a refreshing sight after a long day outside.

4. The simple yet relaxing gazebo

Between Lyn’s house and the swimming pool is the gazebo—a delightful middle ground where they can come together to enjoy quality time over meals, a dip in the pool, or even just a couple of stories and drinks.

RL Tip: If you’re planning to build a gazebo in your property, you may want to take inspiration from tree houses and even the well-loved bahay kubo. Take your cue from this property by defining the path leading to the gazebo with stones. Aside from stones, you can also work with outdoor tiles and pebbles.

5. The functional kitchen with wooden accents

It’s hard not to miss the warm colors, wooden touches, and sleek layout of this cooking area. The hints of red and orange perfectly complement the finish of the cabinets while the interesting shape of the countertop gives the owners enough work and prep area while cooking, It can also be used to display vignettes and fresh flowers, too.
